Police in Witney have urged residents to be vigilant after a series of thefts from vehicles in the area in which tools and other items were stolen.

Six incidents have been reported in the area between mid April and May 2012.

The latest theft occurred between 4.30pm on Thursday (3/5) and 9am on Tuesday (8/5) in Colwell Drive, in which offenders broke into a van and stole a black and yellow Dewalt cordless drill and a black and red Skill cordless drill.

Offenders also stole some documents, including a driving licence.

Between Thursday (3/5) and Saturday (5/5), offenders broke into a van in Church View Road and stole a Dewalt cordless drill, two new batteries and DE9091 chargers.

Another theft was reported in Colwell Drive between 5pm Tuesday (1/5) and 7am Wednesday (2/5), when offenders broke into a vehicle and stole a screwdriver.

At about 3.30pm on Sunday 22 April and 8am on Monday 23 April, offenders broke into a van in Dry Lane, Crawley Mill Industrial Estate  and stole a MIO Sat Nav, £50 and a cash container with a small amount of change, a set of keys and a pair of sunglasses.

Between 3.30am on Sunday 22 April and 8am on Monday 23 April, offenders broke into a van in Dry Lane, Crawley Mill Industrial Estate and stole a JVC compact disc player and a TomTom Sat Nav.

At about 9.30pm on Monday 16 April and 8.10am on Tuesday 17 April, offenders broke into a vehicle in Eastfield Road and stole tools including an electric drill and two MAKITA power tools.

Det Sgt Helen Bradnock, from Witney police station, said: “I believe these thefts are linked and I would remind residents not to leave any valuable items in their vans on show.

“I would also like to hear from anyone who noticed suspicious activities or people in these areas, as well as anyone who has been offered for sale tools that fit the above descriptions.”
