A scheme to deter bogus callers by stopping them even entering the property.

It's a sad fact of life that distraction burglars often prey on elderly and vulnerable residents.

The Police and Trading Standards work hard to tackle this crime but there is a scheme that residents can get involved in to help to deter these criminals.

"Nominate A Neighbour"

When an unknown visitors calls at the door, the occupant shows them the Nominated Neighbour card, preferably at a window or through a chained door. The card directs the visitor to a nominated neighbour who can check their identity for them and perhaps supervise the visit.

The scheme is free and proving popular across the district.
