Your Community, Your Call
There are plenty of ways that you can make a real difference in your local community.
Neighbourhood Action Groups
Becoming a Neighbourhood Action Group (NAG) member is more than just joining a ‘talking shop’.
There are five NAGs in West Oxfordshire who focus their work around the top issues identified by residents on an annual basis.
NAGs attract a diverse membership of people who bring different skills to the group. Representatives from partnership organisations such as the district council, police, local businesses and housing associations also sit on the group.
NAGs vary in each area depending on how it fits into the community but most importantly they are led by local residents with a chair being nominated every three years.
As a member you will gain a sense of satisfaction in encouraging action to improve local quality of life and gain important skills that you can use for your CV.
For more information on your local NAG please contact your neighbourhood police team on 08458 505 505 or visit www.thamesvalley.police.uk/yournh

The Eynsham and Carterton NAGs have their own websites to promote their work.

Thames Valley Police Watch Schemes
If you don’t have much time to spare but would still like to know what is happening in your neighbourhood and street then you could join one of the police watch schemes.
Choose from:
- Neighbourhood Watch
- Country / Horse Watch
- Business Watch
- School Watch
Joining is free and you will receive specific crime alerts either direct to your inbox or as a recorded message to your telephone - the choice is yours. On joining you receive street signs to display and a crime reduction pack. You will be part of a scheme that brings members together to share local concerns.
For more details either visit www.tvpcommunitymessaging.org or telephone Danielle Hilton on 01993 861640.
Volunteer police officer
If you are interested in policing and can spare a minimum of 18 hours a month then becoming a volunteer police officer may be for you. They have the same powers, uniform and equipment as regular police officers and perform a wide range of policing activities.
To find out what skills are needed to become a volunteer officer please visit the Thames Valley Police website: http://www.thamesvalley.police.uk/joinus
