Thames Valley Police is appealing for witnesses and has released a CCTV image, after a man attacked two boys in Witney on Sunday evening (22/1).

At around 6.20pm, a group of three teenagers were cycling in Church Lane when a man approached them and asked for a ride on the back of one of the bikes.

When they said no, he grabbed one of them, a 15-year-old, and pushed him against a wall, speaking to him incoherently. He then let him go. As the group moved away from him, he chased another boy, pulled him off his bike and hit him on the head with a bottle.

The 17-year-old victim suffered a cut to his head and a grazed knee.

PC Leanda Beauchamp, investigating officer, said: “This is an unusual incident as West Oxfordshire is a very safe place. However, in this case the victim could have been very seriously injured and I would urge anyone who may have witnessed this assault or who might know the man in the CCTV image to come forward, as we would like to speak to him in connection with this incident.

“We have had a lot of support from the public when we have made similar appeals for information, which has really helped us in our investigations.”

If you can help, please call PC Beauchamp on the 24-hour Police Enquiry Centre on 101. If you don’t want to speak to police, please call the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
